On 13 October 2023, Legal Aid Counsel / Legal and Management Support, Ms April Wong briefed a group of students from a secondary school on the work and services of the Department, and shared with them career-related information. Students also attended court case hearing at the High Court for a first-hand experience.

On 10 October 2023, Assistant Principal Legal Aid Counsel / Legal and Management Support, Mr David Chow and Assistant Principal Legal Aid Counsel / Application & Processing, Mr Ted Lee conducted a training course for solicitors, namely “Update on Legal Aid Schemes”, organised by the Hong Kong Academy of Law.

On 10 October 2023, Legal Aid Counsel / Application & Processing, Miss Kathy Cho, and Acting Senior Law Clerk I / Kowloon Branch Office Miss Anna Lau delivered a talk for social security officers and frontline staff from the Social Welfare Department and non-governmental organisations on matrimonial matters and on the work and services of the Department.

On 6 October 2023, Assistant Principal Legal Aid Counsel / Crime, Mr Simon Lau, conducted a training course for barristers, namely “Legal Aid: the Right to Legal Aid, Means, Merits and Appeals”, organised by the Hong Kong Bar Association.

On 27 September 2023, Deputy Director of Legal Aid / Application & Processing, Ms Juliana Chan and Assistant Principal Legal Aid Counsel / Legal and Management Support, Mr David Chow received a delegation of 26 senior judges from the Mainland and introduced to them the work and services of the Legal Aid Department.

On 25 September 2023, Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Civil Litigation, Ms Joyce Leung and Legal Aid Counsel / Application & Processing, Mr Kent Wong delivered a talk to social workers and frontline staff of the Social Welfare Department, Hospital Authority and non-governmental organisations and introduced the work and services of the Department related to matrimonial matters.

On 20 September 2023, Acting Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Application & Processing, Ms Krista Sze, at the invitation of 1STep Association, delivered a talk on legal aid application and on services of the Department related to employees’ compensation and personal injuries at work.

On 11 July 2023, Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Kowloon Branch Office, Ms Sally Cheung received a group of law students from the Peking University and introduced to them the work and services of the Department.

On 10 July 2023, Acting Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Civil Litigation, Miss Dora Yeung and Senior Law Clerk I / Official Solicitor’s Office, Ms Cathy Yuen delivered a talk on legal aid services to non-Chinese speaking secondary students at the Career Expo 2023 organized by the Caritas Youth and Community Service.

On 26 June 2023, Acting Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Kowloon Branch Office, Miss Kanas Wong and Acting Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Crime, Ms Shirley Lo (third and fourth from right in the first row) briefed a group of visiting students from a secondary school on the work and services of the Department, and shared with them career-related information. Students also attended court case hearings at the High Court for a first-hand experience of court proceedings.

On 15 June 2023, Acting Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Civil Litigation, Ms Esther Wong (left), and Senior Law Clerk I / Application & Processing, Ms Florence Lo (right), hosted a talk for members of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions and introduced legal aid services relating to employees’ compensation and personal injuries at work.

On 23 May 2023, the Director of Legal Aid, Mr Chris Chong; Deputy Director of Legal Aid (Application & Processing) Ms Juliana Chan; Assistant Director of Legal Aid / Policy & Development, Ms Amy Lee; and Assistant Principal Legal Aid Counsel / Application & Processing, Ms Jenny Leung visited the Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims and discussed with its Chief Executive Ms Fay Siu and colleagues on legal aid services relating to employees compensation and personal injuries.

On 17 May 2023, Legal Aid Counsel / Crime, Mr James Yeung, gave a talk to a group of newly arrived ethnic minorities organised by the International Social Service Hong Kong Branch. He introduced the scope of legal aid services, and explained application procedures and requirements and eligibility criteria.

On 29 April 2023, the Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims and Hong Kong Repertory Theatre organised a stage performance for secondary school students on youth occupational safety based on actual work-related injury cases. Assistant Principal Legal Aid Counsel, Miss Ada Wong, (fourth from right, back row) attended and joined the exchange session afterwards.

On 28 March 2023, Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Civil Litigation, Miss Fanny Lo (right), hosted a talk for frontline staff and volunteers of Po Leung Kuk Tsui Lam Centre and introduced the work and services of the Department relating to family issues such as divorce, maintenance, child custody and application for restraining order.

On 14 March 2023, Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Kowloon Branch Office, Ms Janet Fung, hosted a talk for volunteer mediators and staff of the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society. She introduced the work and services of the Department and legal aid-related mediation issues in matrimonial cases.

On 23 February 2023, Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Application and Processing, Ms Maze Chak, (left), and Senior Law Clerk I / Application & Processing, Ms Florence Lo (right), hosted a talk for members of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions and introduced legal aid services relating to employees’ compensation and personal injuries at work.

On 12 February 2023, Hong Kong held its 25th Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon. The Director of Legal Aid, Mr Chris Chong, joined our colleagues and those from the Chief Secretary for Administration's Office in forming a volunteer team to distribute the runner’s packs at the Victoria Park on February 10.

On 10 February 2023, the Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims and UOW College Hong Kong, had together with Hong Kong Repertory Theatre organised a stage performance to promote to secondary school students about youth occupational safety based on actual work-related injury cases.
After performance by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, the Deputy Director of Legal Aid (Application & Processing) Ms Juliana Chan shared with the students on the works and services provided by the Legal Aid Department in handling the requests for assistance on work injury cases.
