About 21 students from a secondary school under the School Promotion Programme visited the Department on 9 December 2019. The visit comprised a case hearing at the High Court and an introduction on the Department’s services and daily works of Legal Aid Counsel and Law Clerk, which aimed to help secondary students to understand the operation of the Department and provide them with career-related information and advice. On 8 November 2019, two staff members of the Legal Aid Department, Senior Legal Aid Counsel/Civil Litigation 2, Ms Ada Chau and Senior Law Clerk I/Kowloon Branch Office, Mr Philip Leung (fourth and fifth from the left) received Individual Awards of the Ombudsman's Awards 2019 in recognition of their courage in accepting responsibility and diligence in handling complaints.

On 5 November 2019, the Deputy Director of Legal Aid, Mr Chris Chong (left), and Assistant Director of Legal Aid (Litigation), Mr Steve Wong (right), met with Dr Huang Jiefang (center), Director of Legal Affairs and External Relations Bureau of the International Civil Aviation Organisation, Canada, to exchange views on legal aid services in Hong Kong.

On 27 September 2019, Assistant Principal Legal Aid Counsel / Legal and Management Support, Mrs Christina Hadiwibawa, gave a presentation on “Update on enforcement of maintenance order by way of judgment summons in Hong Kong” at the Law Lectures for Practitioners held by the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong.

On 5 September 2019, Legal Aid Counsel / Application & Processing, Mr James Yeung (left), and Senior Law Clerk I / Kowloon Branch Office, Mr Philip Leung (right), hosted a talk for members of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions and introduced legal aid services relating to employees’ compensation and personal injuries at work.

On 20 August 2019, Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Application and Processing, Ms Mandy Chow, and Legal Aid Counsel / Application and Processing, Ms Krista Sze (third and fifth from left in the front row), received a group of Mainland officials from Shenzhen and gave a briefing on the services of the Legal Aid Department.

On 8 August 2019, Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Crime, Ms Sally Cheung (fourth from left in the front row), received a group of Mainland law students from the Peking University and introduced to them the work and services of the Legal Aid Department. The visit was organised by the Global Chinese Lawyers Alliance.

On 26 June 2019, Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Civil Litigation (2), Ms Janet Fung (left) and Acting Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Application and Processing, Ms Katrina Ng (right), hosted a talk for social workers and frontline staff from the Social Welfare Department, Hospital Authority and non-governmental organisations and introduced the Department’s work and legal aid services relating to family issues including divorce, maintenance, child custody and guardianship of minor.

On 15 June 2019, Acting Assistant Principal Legal Aid Counsel / Civil Litigation 2, Miss Doreen Chan, and Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Application & Processing, Ms Carol Ling (fourth and fifth from left in front row), gave a talk on legal aid services for members of CBMP Student Association. The talk was organised by the Women’s Commission and LiPACE, The Open University of Hong Kong.

On 13 June 2019, Acting Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Kowloon Branch Office, Ms Joyce Leung (right), and Legal Aid Counsel / Civil Litigation (2), Ms Wendy Bien (left), hosted a talk for the social workers and frontline staff of Mother’s Choice and introduced the Department’s work and legal aid services relating to family matters including divorce, child custody and guardianship of minor.

A group of 14 non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students from a secondary school under the Caritas Youth & Community Service's programme “Providing Life Planning Education Activities for NCS Students in Secondary Schools” visited the Department on 30 May 2019. The visit comprised a case hearing at the High Court and an introduction on the daily work of Legal Aid Counsel and Law Clerk, which aimed at helping NCS students to understand the operation of the Department and providing them with career-related information and advice. On 29 May 2019, Deputy Director of Legal Aid / Litigation, Ms Juliana OY Chan, (fourth left in front row) and Assistant Principal Legal Aid Counsel / Application and Processing (1), Miss Ada Wong (third right in front row), received a 23-member delegation of Mainland Senior Chinese Judges and gave a briefing on Hong Kong’s legal aid system. The visit was part of the 14th Advanced Programme for Chinese Senior Judges organised by the School of Law of the City University of Hong Kong.

On 10 April 2019, Senior Legal Aid Counsel / Application and Processing, Mr Ivan Yim (left), and Legal Aid Counsel / Kowloon Branch Office, Ms Krista Sze (right), received a group of Mainland officials and representatives of various organisations from the Guangdong Province and gave a briefing on the services of the Legal Aid Department.

On 27 March 2019, the Director of Legal Aid, Mr Thomas Kwong (fifth from left) together with two deputy directors received a 7-member delegation led by Mr Xiong Xuanguo (sixth from left), Vice Minister, Ministry of Justice, and exchanged views on the legal aid system in Hong Kong.

On 31 January 2019, Director of Legal Aid, Mr Thomas Kwong (right), met with Mr Liu Daqun (left), Judge of International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, United Nations and exchanged views on legal aid services in Hong Kong.

On 15 January 2019, Acting Assistant Principal Legal Aid Counsel / Civil Litigation 2, Miss Doreen Chan, hosted a talk for over 20 social workers and frontline staff of Po Leung Kuk Tsui Lam Centre and introduced the work and services of the Department relating to family issues such as divorce, maintenance, child custody and guardianship of minor.

On 10 January 2019, about 40 professional officers participated in a sharing session with Legislative Council Member, Mr Dennis Kwok, and discussed on various topics including legal aid reform and latest development in legal aid services.
